Recognition of prior learning - challenging the outcome of your application
Enquiries about recognition of prior learning application outcomes
If you have a concern about your recognition of prior learning application outcome, please firstly apply for a Request to Reconsider RPL Outcome rather than making a formal appeal. This is designed to provide a detailed level of assurance and checking of the outcome, as well as to provide important feedback.
All routes for enquiries are exhausted when the CII Director or Manager notifies you that this point has been reached in your enquiry (closure of final escalation).
The Request to Reconsider RPL Outcome isn't applicable for challenging the recognition of prior learning scheme rules. If you wish to challenge the scheme rules, this should be a complaint.
Request to Reconsider RPL Outcome
A Request for CII to reconsider the outcome of a recognition of prior learning application should be made to the Prior Learning team at priorlearning@cii.co.uk. It must be submitted within 28 days of the application outcome.
The CII will make the following checks:
- Identify whether any clerical errors were made during the vetting of the application
- Identify whether the outcome of the application reflects how closely the non-CII qualification matches current CII qualifications.
The CII will aim to provide the outcome of the subsequent review within 10 working days of receipt of the request. However:
- If the CII requires additional qualification material to the application form, graduation certificate and result transcript, for example syllabus and assessments, the applicant will have up to 3 months from the date we request the material to provide this
- The CII will aim to revert to the applicant within 2 months of the date we receive the additional qualification material.
If the Request to Reconsider RPL Outcome has not addressed your enquiry, then please contact priorlearning@cii.co.uk to share your specific concern. We will reply within 5 working days, you will be given a deadline by which a full reply will be provided.
If we are unable to resolve your concern satisfactorily, we will escalate your enquiry to be reviewed by a more senior member of the team. If your enquiry is escalated, we will send you an acknowledgement and respond fully within 14 working days. If this is not possible, we will provide an update on current progress and an expected resolution date.
The final point of escalation for an enquiry is to the Qualification Director or alternate Assessment Manager. If this final escalation stage cannot address your concerns, you will be notified that you are eligible to make a Qualifications Formal Appeal. At all stages we will handle your query as promptly as possible, keeping you updated.
