Who is it for?

Anyone who wants to work as a financial adviser. They might be employed in large companies such as banks, or within small specialist advice businesses. They will need to build long-term relationships with clients, researching the marketplace and recommending the most appropriate financial products and services available.

What will they learn?

Financial advisers can specialise in particular products, depending on their clients. So, for example, apprentices might cover employee pension schemes for companies, or learn about offering mortgage, pension or investment advice to private clients. They will be operating in a highly regulated environment where, to give financial advice, they will need professional qualifications and a high degree of integrity. They will also need to follow a code of ethics and maintain their professional development and knowledge.

Assessment

During the course (‘on-programme’) and at the end (‘end-point assessment’). Studying towards this qualification also involves off-the-job training and maintaining a training file in line with the employer’s performance management process.

Future job roles

This apprenticeship is designed for apprentices with no previous experience, who want to become a financial adviser – although employers will also set their own requirements. Those in other roles, such as financial services administrator, mortgage adviser or paraplanner, could also use it as a way of progressing as a financial adviser. Beyond this, apprentices could find future opportunities as a Chartered Financial Planner, manager or business owner.
