Yassir’s successful career in reinsurance spans over 36 years, starting with Arab Insurance Group (ARIG) in 1987, and then becoming its CEO in 2006 until his departure in 2018. He then joined Trust Re (Bahrain) Board as Vice Chairman in 2019 and became its Group CEO & Executive Director in 2021.
He is Past President and current Board member of the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR) in Cairo, Past President and current Board member of the Association of Insurers and Reinsurers of Developing Countries (AIRDC) in Manila, member of the Executive Council of the International Insurance Society (IIS) in New York, Chairman of the FAIR Non-Life Reinsurance Pool in Istanbul, Board member at Bahrain Institute of Banking & Finance (BIBF) and Board member of Dhofar Insurance Company in Muscat.
Yassir was voted amongst the ‘top 40 most influential people’ in 2008 by Global Reinsurance magazine and in 2019 received a Laureate Award from the FAIR and subsequently inducted into the FAIR Hall of Fame. He is a regular speaker in many regional and international reinsurance forums.
Yassir graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor’s in Engineering (Mechanical) from McGill University in Montreal and then in 1986 obtained a dual Master’s in Engineering (Manufacturing) and an MBA (High Honours) from Boston University. He was elected as Fellow and Chartered Insurer of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in 1993 and is a member of its Society of Professional Underwriting Community.
