In February, I updated you on the completion of our initial Membership by Professional Experience pilot. Much progress has been made since then, and the Board received further information and recommendations on how best to progress this initiative at its April meeting. In particular, we heard about proposals to do a further, and final, pilot to validate (or further inform) our thinking using a larger cohort of individuals.  This will include the exploration of corporate and chartered GI cohorts. The Board was supportive of taking the initiative forward in line with the proposed recommendations, keeping in our minds the constructive and helpful experiences of those who participated in the initial pilot. It continues to be the case that any new routes to membership must be aligned with the Professional Map, to ensure the highest professional standards can continue to be met.

We will provide all our members with further detail on this initiative over coming months to ensure transparency and broaden understanding.

Across other matters, the Board has just released three exciting opportunities to join us as Engagement Board Members in the areas of Financial Planning, Personal Lines, and London Markets. Our Engagement Board Members actively contribute to the work of the Board, acting as the Membership voice in discussions and decisions. We would welcome applications from across the membership. The closing date is 3 May 2024 at 5pm.

More information can be found on our website: https://www.cii.co.uk/about-us/work-for-us/vacancies/

It was also Gill White’s last meeting in her capacity as Acting CEO, with Matthew Hill joining us as Group Chief Executive on 8 April. The Board thanked Gill for all she had done over the past six months.

Routine business of the CII Group Board continued, and it was pleased to receive a further progress update from the PFS on its governance review. The outcome of this will be a Governance Framework that articulates the collaborative spirit, shared values, and direction of the CII and PFS. We heard from the Local Institutes and Gill, Matthew and I are all scheduled to attend Digital Town Halls in coming weeks, where we very much look forward to providing more information about our upcoming programme of events, including the CII Conference in June. In addition, the Board was pleased to note that – following agreement at the last meeting – our International Affiliated Institutions had been renewed, and work would commence on designing and proposing a new International Affiliated Institutions Principal Framework.

Finally, it was noted that the Board had received, and approved, a finalised budget for 2024 between meetings.

Our next meeting will be held on 23 May 2024.
